Class 4 Animal Projects Exhibition

As part of Class 4's four-week 'The Human Being and the Animals Main Lesson each pupil undertakes an animal project, making a 3D model of an animal of their choosing, accompanied by a written report collating their research and delivering a talk to their class of peers. It is important the projects include oral, artistic and written elements.

Children from various other classes are invited to see the exhibition of Animal Projects.  This year Class 3 and 5 have been invited. The 9- and 10-year-old pupils usually have their desks in a circle with their projects on top to enable the visitors to walk around and ask questions.

A good school library isn't just important for academic achievement. Reading for pleasure also improves children's wellbeing – something our children need now more than ever before. National Books' big prize draw is giving parents and schools an opportunity to win £5,000 of book tokens (with an extra £100 of tokens to the winning applicant).

The closing date is Saturday 31st July 2021, and the winner will be announced in the autumn term.

Thank you to parent Fiona Moore for entering and suggesting it to be shared inn the Tuesday Notice for others to follow suit.

Calling Budding, Book-loving Designers

This summer term, National Book's are asking children to send in their own dazzling National Book Token designs. Whether it's your school crest doodled in ink, a pencil drawing of the entire class, or something completely different, the creative boundaries are endless. Six weekly winners throughout May and June will get their artwork made into up to

35 gift cards, each loaded with £10 to spend on brilliant books -   that's one for you, and one for everyone else in your class. Download the template here. Once you have completed your design, enter the competition here. You can be inspired by last year's winner's here. The closing date for entries is Sunday 13th June 2021.

The winners will be featured on nationalbooktokens.com, their social media channels, and ours.

If you'd like your entry submission to feature on the School Facebook and Instagram pages, please email it to: communications@edinburghsteinerschool.org.uk  (sharing your favourite book(s) so far).

Waldorf Pupil & Mother Publish Children's Book

This new picture book for young children is beautifully illustrated by Zephir Delamore, a pupil at fellow Waiheke Island Steiner School in New Zealand.

The author, Vibhusha, is also a Waldorf Kindergarten Teacher at the school.

Each of the 36 pages are full colour pictures with the story written into them. Zephir’s drawings,

coloured in watercolour by Vibusha, hover between cartoon and fairy story.

Hector is a young dragon who is different. He cannot breath fire. But can he do something else?

Follow Hector's adventures as he stuggles to come to terms with who he is and enjoy the wonderful discovery that he makes.

"The character of Hector, his parents and friends (and a surprise at the top of a mountain) come off the page and draws one warmly (in spite of the fact that Hector cannot breath fire!) into a lively imaginal world.

The tale is a delight, the pictures come alive; take a step away from the concerns of daily life, bathe in the story of Hector and return refreshed! (And that is just for the adults… young children will love Hector!)" New Review

Learning Disabilities No Barrier For Garvald Artists

The Art and Design Studio, based at Orwell Arts in Edinburgh, enables individual artists to develop and exhibit their work. The artists have access to high quality materials and support, giving them space to explore and express their creative voice.

Artists with learning disabilities face a number of barriers to the mainstream art world. Garvald Edinburgh endeavours to break these down by focusing on their abilities and showcasing the quality, diversity and warmth of their work.

A selection of these art works can now be purchased through their online shop. Garvald Edinburgh is a registered charity which has been supporting adults with learning disabilities in the Edinburgh area since 1969.

Their work is inspired by the ideas of Rudolf Steiner and is committed to an approach which recognizes the uniqueness of each person and their hopes, aspirations and contributions.
